In 2007 the provincial Department of Health issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to develop long term care beds and services in eleven Nova Scotia communities.  Shannex responded to this RFP and was awarded nine of the eleven sites, i.e. Amherst, Bible Hill, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Cole Harbor, Debert, Greenwich, Kentville, and Sydney.

Shannex has chosen the phrase, Building for Better Living, to describe this building project.  This phrase reflects our primary focus which is to offer seniors, who require nursing home and residential care facility support, a new way of living in their communities.

Five facilities opened in 2009 - Debert Court in Debert, Bissett Court in Cole Harbour, Celtic Court in Sydney, Elk Court in Brookfield and Orchard Court in Kentville.  Northumberland Hall (Amherst), Blomidon Court (Greenwich), Vimy Court (Bible Hill) and Ryan Hall (Bridgewater) will open in 2010.

Admission to these continuing care residences is managed by the Department of Health through its Single Entry Access System.  Call 1-800-225-7225 if you require long term care services.
