Safe Communities

Nothing is more important to us than ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and team members. Safety is one of our four guiding principles: We are compassionate, honest, professional and safe. It is also included in our mission, vision and values, and our strategic plan.   If you have any questions about our resident safety practices, please speak to a member of your community’s management team. Our Resident Safety Plan for Licensed Long-Term Care Communities is available online, at the nursing station in each neighborhood of the home, or by asking one of our team members.

Infection Prevention and Control

Infection prevention and control is a shared responsibility of all members of our communities and is supported by several in-house experts, including an infection prevention and control specialist, certified by the Infection Prevention and Epidemiology Council of Canada, who oversees our infection control program. In addition, each home has a specially trained infection prevention and control representative, who manages the implementation of the program at the nursing home level. The majority of our communities have individual apartments with private bathrooms, which is an important part of infection control and helps reduce the risk of infection transmission. These single rooms allow residents to be easily isolated from others while having all the necessary comforts if they have symptoms of illness or if they are under investigation for infection. Click here for information on our response to COVID-19 and our current infection prevention and control practices.

Residents’ Voices

We are proud to share Parkstone residents Naomi Black, Elaine Hawkins and Barbara Cooper‘s honest and insightful story titled Residents’ Voices. The trio was known as “The Flamboyance,” a name inspired by a flamingo-themed gift from one of their daughters.

The piece was intended to be comical and something to help pass the time, but it quickly developed into an important message, dispelling many myths about life in long term care.
