COVID-19 Update: March 16, 2020 – An update to our valued community

Our valued community,
Given the rapidly evolving situation over the weekend related to COVID-19, I wanted to personally provide an update today to our valued community. We have been posting updates daily to our website since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. This practice will continue, and we would ask all families and friends of those living within Shannex, Parkland and Faubourg residences, as well as other stakeholders, to continue to check our website as the main source of information as events are changing around us daily.
Our robust Pandemic Plan is built on a strong foundation of best practices in infection protection and control. The Pandemic Response Team meets regularly to provide support to operational teams at all of our locations and follow direction provided by the World Health Organization, the Public Health Agency of Canada and our provincial public health bodies.
The first and most important message is that we are doing everything we can to protect the health and safety of those who live and work in our communities. As stated in previous updates, we have now closed our communities to all visitors, with only limited exceptions. I would ask you all to adhere to this direction or consult a member of the management team at your community before you enter one of our residences. Shortly, we will be sharing additional direction for families with respect to residents leaving the residence and the potential impact of residents leaving, as well as information about families dropping off supplies and packages for loved ones.
We have advanced screening protocols in place for all employees to ensure they are not coming to work if there is any risk that they have been exposed to COVID-19 or are otherwise unwell. We also require all employees who have travelled outside the country to wait 14 days before returning to work.
We have increased our cleaning protocols. Our procurement team has secured additional medical and operational supplies at all locations and our culinary teams have increased food supply at each site to ensure a month’s worth of food in case of delayed deliveries.
