Improving the Lives of Seniors in the Miramichi Community

Miramichi Outreach Services is a community-based service which assists seniors and those with disabilities in the Miramichi and surrounding communities who prefer to live in their home with additional support. Miramichi Outreach Services offers cooked meals daily through the Meals on Wheels Program, weekday programming of supervised activities through the Adult Day Program, and a Lifeline service offering an emergency response system installed in your home.

Meals on Wheels

With the rising cost of grocery prices, having access to affordable, healthy meals is paramount to keeping people healthy and independent in their homes. Meals on Wheels offers affordable, fresh, nutritious meals delivered to your home by friendly volunteers. This convenient service is ideal for anyone who has difficulty preparing a full meal and gives the flexibility to avoid travel in the winter months. Details include: 

  • Meals include soup or salad, meat or fish, vegetables, potatoes, dessert and a roll.
  • Special diets including gluten free options are available.
  • A total of seven meals will be delivered each week, as follows:.
    • Monday: 1 meal for Monday
    • Tuesday: 2 Meals for Tuesday and Wednesday
    • Thursday: 2 Meals for Thursday and Friday
    • Friday: 2 Meals for Saturday and Sunday
  • Meals are only delivered within the city limits. Arrangements can be made for those outside city limits.
  • Meal prices are $9.50/meal
  • Financial assistance may be available to clients under the Social Development or Veterans Program

Volunteer, Miramichi Outreach Services (Meals on Wheels)

For nearly 20 years, Debby Manual has been a dedicated volunteer with Miramichi Outreach Services’ Meals on Wheels program. Her compassion and care for others have left a lasting mark on her community, making her a deserving recipient of the Shannex Cares Award For Community Impact. She is proof that one person can make a powerful difference.

Volunteers Wanted

We are looking for volunteers who are fully licensed and willing to drive for Meals on Wheels once a month or more! Routes range from 30 minutes to 1-hour. Food pick-up is between 10:30-11:30 a.m at Losier Hall and deliveries are within city limits, but volunteers can decide which area to deliver to.

Volunteers need a recent Social Development Record Check (forms available through us) as well as a Police Check with Vulnerable Sector (a letter will be provided indicating this is a volunteer placement so there will be no fee). Police checks must be requested through City Police or RCMP whichever is closest to your home address.

Adult Day Program

Adult Day Program is a service which helps seniors and adults with disabilities to remain as independent as possible in the community. The program also gives relief to families or caregivers who are providing care. Details include:

  • Supervised activities
  • Meals and snacks provided
  • Assistance with hygiene and other care needs
  • Clients are encouraged to be dropped off and transportation may be provided within specified routes in the city
  • Open Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Located at Losier Hall Nursing Home | 515 Water St.
  • Adult Day Programming is $47.00/day
  • Financial assistance may be available to clients under the Social Development or Veterans Program

The Lifeline waterproof pendant quickly connects you to our 24/7 response center with the simple push of a button. Whether you need emergency service or just the assistance of family or friend, help is on the way.

  • There are different units available, offering various levels of protection, for both landline and cell-phone users.
  • Clients have access to help 24/7, whether at the push of a button or through Lifeline’s automatic fall detection feature.
  • Financial assistance may be available to clients under the Social Development or Veterans Program.
